February 21, 2021 Yesterday was exhausting. I got the assignment for the final round of the NYC Midnight 250 word Microfiction Challenge at midnight and probably got seriously writing around 9-10am. Over the course of the day I wrote three complete stories, threw each of them out, cried for three hours, then wrote a new, fourth, and final story and submitted it with moments to spare. Unbelievably, I love the final story I wrote. It’s called “Mardi Gras Mambo.” My husband thinks it’s my best one of the competition so far. Finger’s crossed. I couldn’t have gotten through this without Jade’s support. He kept me waist high in donuts, coffee, cold press juices, chicky nuggets and offered creative consultation, copy editing, and psychiatric intervention.
February 18, 2021 Just learned that my story has placed 1st in my group for the 2nd Round of the NYC Midnight 250 word Microfiction Challenge. I am beyond thrilled! Now I will get my assignment for the final round Friday at midnight and have 24 hours to write a new story.
February 9, 2021 Today I received in the mail Issue 3 of SHiFT: A Journal of Literary Oddities. My short story “Rib” is now my first piece in print. I am absolutely giddy. And I am so happy that is was this story. It’s close to my heart (pun a little intended) and it was rejected a lot before this acceptance. I am so happy I kept the faith.
February 5, 2021 I have placed 3rd in the New Orleans Public Library’s 2021 Winter Writing contest with my flash story “Horse Firetruck Apple Sky.” The best part is that I have won a gift certificate to a library book sale. Yes!
January 28, 2021 I learned today that my very first print piece has officially been printed. My short story “Rib” will be appearing in the latest issue of Shift: A Journal of Literary Oddities. There will be a slight delay in shipping because of Covid related issues, but it will be here soon enough.

January 16, 2021 I’ve submitted my 250 word story for Round Two. That was a crazy 17 hours. Now we cross our fingers and wait for good news on February 15. This time I need to place in the top 5 to advance to the final round.
January 13, 2021 I placed 1st in my group for Round One of the 250 Microfiction Challenge for NYC Midnight! There were 50 stories in each group. Not sure how many groups total. I will get my assignment for round 2 January 15 at 11:59pm.
